It appears that Gary's film Children of Divorce (1927) may finally be getting a DVD release. This film has never been released on home video and out of all of Gary's films that have yet to be released, this is the one I have wanted the most. The film stars Clara Bow and Esther Ralston and neither one of these ladies have many films available for purchase. Clara is my favorite actress and I really like Esther too so this is just a dream come true. I'll finally get to see my two favorites, Gary and Clara, acting together - I'm so excited!!!!
Flicker Alley has licensed the film for distribution and it will be released on Blu-ray. I found this information on the Nitrateville site quite by accident. I was reading a thread about a restoration of another of Clara's films, Get Your Man (1927), when this bombshell was dropped by David Shepard who works in film restoration.
I have been waiting to post this until I had more information but I'm so excited about it that I just had to share.
In 1927, Clara Bow was just about the biggest movie star in the country and Gary was just beginning to get more substantial roles. The story is he actually got fired from this film because he was doing a pretty poor job but the man they replaced him with was worse so Gary was rehired. He had mostly done bit parts or Westerns up to that point and playing a sophisticated young gentleman (a character he would later play many times with ease), was not yet a part of his acting repertoire.
The plot of the movie involves a love triangle between the lead actresses and Gary. He is in love with Esther but after getting drunk one night he wakes up the next morning married to Clara. Problems ensue in this drama with a social message.
As soon as we get more information and an official announcement, I'll let y'all know!
